PALM BEACH COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD IT SECURITY WORKSHOP
MINUTES
Minutes: The purpose of the workshop today is to present Board Members and allow discussion of the following information: High level background of what technologies were in place prior to 2005; Emphasize our largest threats; and Request support from the District to centralize support, maintenance and implementation of the entire infrastructure, PC’s, servers and the network. Bob LaRocca, IT Security Director, summarized the reasons why information security is critical to district operations, which included: keep kids safe; data protection; prevent misuse of resources; prevent interruption of operations; what IT security has accomplished; and how we are addressing the issues. Linda Mainord, Chief Information Officer, stressed consistency in desktop configuration to assist in improving security and the importance in replacing equipment every five years which she feels is the District's most vulnerable security issue. Board Members discussed the following topics: updating the District's policy to include IT security; highly trained technical support in schools; and flexibility in moving forward.
